USA Today reports the FBI is taking over the investigation of a newborn found dead aboard the Carnival cruise ship Dream on October 12th. The discovery was made by a Carnival Dream crewmember in a guest cabin. The Carnival Dream was in the middle of a Caribbean cruise originating from Port Canaveral, Florida. Carnival said in a press release that infant’s mother, a 20-year-old female passenger, was detained pending further investigation. The FBI released that the baby’s mother is a U.S. passenger but not a resident of Florida. The FBI did not release any information about the mother beyond that which had been released by Carnival. There has not yet been a finding as to whether the death was an accident or not.
