Port Tampa Bay is Home to a Large Maritime Industry
In terms of physical size, Port Tampa Bay has the status of being the largest port in Florida with its 5,000-acre footprint. The port handles over 37 million tons of cargo each year and is one of the most diversified ports in the nation, handling virtually all commodity categories from cement, granite and coal to petroleum, scrap metal and steel products. Port Tampa Bay is also one of the largest shipbuilding and repair ports in the southeastern United States. Together with AMPORTS (one of the largest auto processors in North America), Port Tampa Bay has developed a dedicated terminal to accommodate automobile imports and exports.
